I managed to install (a live usb) MINT on a fast USB stick of 4 GB !
(yes I'm very happy about it )
How I did it :
I used the (very slow) Vista laptop of my girlfriend and followed following procedure :

Granted, it didn't work the first time I tried.
That's because I had to correct 2 lines in the batch file fixmint.bat
1) Line 62 should be :
2) Line 66 should be :
(You might have guessed it, I'm a windows admin, and I started out with DOS)
Also, be sure to put all your downloads on the stick once it's formatted, and run the corrected batch file fixmint.bat from the stick as administrator (typical Vista stuff) .
Then I booted from the stick and now I'm in MINT heaven
I must admit that this is the first linux distro that I REALLY like.
My girlfriend's laptop now acts like a race monster and LIVE USB MINT is packed with nice apps.
- how do I save my desktop settings (in other words, make the changes 'persistent') ?
- how do I change the keyboard settings (the option is there in control center, but changes aren't immediate) ?
- how can I congratulate the MINT team ?
