How to Configure Dual Monitors?

Postby raisedfists911 on Fri Jul 04, 2008 11:39 am

Hi all,

I'm using the latest Linux Mint with an nVidia 7800gt with 1 LCD on VGA and 1 on DVI. I have successfully installed the nVidia display driver and have enabled dual monitors just fine.

I am able to drag back and forth between both monitors just fine. I am using X Screen mode with Xinerama enabled.

The problem is any desktop background I use is one continuous background across both screens. Also, the top menu/tool bar on Ubuntu is not displayed (The menu bar that has drop down menu's for display, administration, etc) unless I use the display twin mode. I don't want to stretch the entire desktop across both screens. I liked how in windows you have just a huge blank space where you can drag stuff onto the 2ndary monitor.

Anyone have any idea? Thank you and if this topic is in the wrong section I apologize.

Here is my xorg.conf

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Also, the top menu/tool bar on Ubuntu is not displayed

Well, Mint does not use it - in case you have not noticed
It is possible to add a top panel though
I have been searching for a solution for different backgrounds but not found one - strange since I think I answered a question about that this spring or summer...

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
