Got Mint 15 installed yesterday on a brand new laptop (dualboot with win7) and I am liking it so far, very quick and mostly fairly intuitive. One problem tho: my touchpad won't scroll in any way, I have to use the scrollbar on the far right of the screen (which is pretty inconvenient).
I went to system settings> mouse and touchpad> touchpad> and tried enabling edge scrolling (didnt work) and two-finger scrolling (didn't work), and adjusting the acceleration and sensitivity (nothing changed no matter what i set it to). Disable touchpad while typing also does not work
I tried this
but this happened:
- Code: Select all
$ synclient touchpadoff=1
Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?
and now I am stuck - do I need to install drivers? and if so, how do I go about finding then installing them?
EDIT: i went to the driver manager but all it told me is that 'no proprietary drivers are in use' and I couldn't see any options for checking if drivers are needed. Also the webcam doesnt connect, (cheese - no image, camorama - couldn't connect to /dev/vide0), presumably i need driver for that too?
EDIT #2: thishttp://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=144346&p=763490&hilit=find+drivers#p763490 tells me i just need to search for drivers, I've sent an inquiry to the manufacturer (search didn't turn anything up) do I understand correctly that without a driver I may not be able to get the touchpad / webcam working fully?
EDIT #3: the touchpad is Sentelic, and various searches have turned up that a driver/ kernel patch should exist (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/AsusZenbook#Touchpad), but I'm not sure what to do - I know nothing about how to patch a kernel (sounds complicated) - can anyone help?
thanks for any help any one can offer
