Problem setting 1280x1024 resolution, keeps switching back

I can't set my screen resolution to 1280x1024. Well, I can set it but after restart it's back to 1024x768.
I've tried setting it in Nvidia X-Server manager, and used displayconfig-gtk. Effect is the same. The resolution is changed to higher one (1280x1024) but after rebooting I get lower one (1024x768).

I've been using Linux Mint 3.1 and adding 1280x1024 to xorg.conf in modes part made my monitor work at proper resolution.
As far as I can see the structure of the xorg.conf has changed since then.

Any idea what's wrong?

Oh, and I should say that I'm using GeForce 7600GT.

By "Nvidia X-Server manager", if you don't mean "nvidia-settings", there is such a tool in the repositories, which you can install with:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings

and run with
Code: Select all
Alt+F2 >> gksu nvidia-settings


You might have more luck with this tool, which allows the user to set a specific resolution and refresh rate.

NVIDIA X Server Settings is nvidia-settings, it's one the of the apps if used while trying to fix the problem but hasn't helped me. Setting resolution there works till reboot. The strange things is that before nautilius start to load the resolution is 1280x1024 on the login screen but after I enter login and password it switches to 1024x768, I can see that by the size of the cursor and it's position on the screen (because on the loading time there is only black screen). I will try to fix that someway.

Strange, your log indicates that the driver is loaded and the resolution is set without any troubles. What does the gnome resolution tool say? Screen resolution in the menu.

Ha, afte setting resolution with the Gnome resolution tool is stayed even after the reboot and works swell :) Thank You very much.
