USB WiFi Piece, DWL-G132 Installation

Postby AMLow on Sun Jul 06, 2008 8:55 pm

I don't want to wear out my welcome here but I got another question, how do I install DWL-G132 USB WiFi Piece. The wiki page instructions confused me an seemed outdated.

The wiki isn't outdated, it just doesn't separate the USB instructions from the PCI. I've never used a USB Wifi device, but it shouldn't be too hard. Do you have a CD that came with it? It will have the drivers you need on it. If not, you will have to hunt them down. Plug in your USB device and run
Code: Select all
lsusb
in a terminal and post the results.

Buy outdated I meant some of the names it refers to have changed (Networking enabled is Enable Networking, nothing big really).

Do you still have the CD that came with it?

Oh, sorry. Yeah I got the CD that came with it. I actually got the drivers to install, sorry for the trouble. But I can't figure out how to search for wireless networks.

There is a little more to it than that :D I assume you used ndiswrapper to install the .inf file? You need to load the ndiswrapper module
Code: Select all
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
Then you need to add the ndiswrapper module to /etc/modules
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/modules
and add
Code: Select all
ndiswrapper
to the end of the file and save. You will need to reboot for the changes to take effect. The only part I'm not sure about is if you need to boot with the USB device plugged in or not. Try it without first. After you plug it in, click on the network manager icon on the panel, and see if it shows any wireless networks.
