Mint on Macbook Pro; No Wireless

Postby Bookworm on Sat Jul 19, 2008 12:24 pm

Hi all!

I just got Mint version5.0 Elyssa installed on my Macbook Pro (it's about a year old, 2.33GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon x1600 Graphics Card), and I'm proud to say that everything is working perfectly - I'm using rEFIt and Bootcamp to hold all three OSes, Mac, Windows, and& Linux.

However, I cannot get the wifi to work in Mint using the MBP's built-in Atheros card. I setup MadWIFI and compiled it; that went fine, then I started modprobe ath_pci and it worked, too - but no ath0 device or wifi0 device is being created and I cannot connect. Any help?

Any and all help/suggestions is GREATLY appreciated - thanks!

You might give ndiswrapper a try. Just follow the instructions here: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=13980

i already tried using the Atheros drivers within the directory linuxmint directory in lib. That didn't work- said 'hardware not connected' or something to that effect. Thanks for the help :)

You need the net5416 driver. Download it here: http://ubuntuforums.org/attachment.p...4&d=1199824855 Once you extract the driver, use the tutorial I linked to earlier and tell ndiswrapper to install the net.5416.inf instead of the net5211.inf. You will have to follow every step for it to work.

Ah, thank you very much. I will download that and try it right now. Thank Bob I have three different operating systems on here.

By the way, I'm reading that 'Linux is not Windows' article right now. It's quite interesting.
