That is healthy skepticism. To move config files wholesale from one version or distro to another is a potential train wreck. It usually takes more work to insure that you won't have problems, checking version conflicts etc., than it does to redo the configurations. I only transfer config files that contain data, ie knotes, tomboy, the browser, the mail client, etc. And then I make sure the programs are the same version. Otherwise I downgrade the program, replace the config file and then upgrade it together.I am always reluctant to bring over preference settings when moving from one version of a distro to another. So many things change, apps change version numbers...I am just not comfortable that I will not be just be making a huge problem for myself.
Besides, isn't one of the big reasons for upgrading the distro in the first place to get the new look and feel? Kinda defeats the purpose if the new version looks and feels just like the old one, doesn't it?
Just my own thoughts on the matter.
