I went to Minimize Konsole, and it dissapeared. I had to reopen the app. then when I clicked on another app[mint forum] outside the window, konsole dissapered again. This makes it very hard to copy/ paste several lines of text over.

?How do you tell the windows to tile?

You don't need to reopen the application.

I was finding the default Mint setting is odd to new users (from Windows). I suspect it has something to do with compiz eye candy.

In short, when you minimize a window, it does not show at the task bar (if it is called task bar), which lead you think it was closed. However, if you use Alt-Tab to switch tasks, you will see the disappeared application back in action.

To make it the normal "Windows like", you just need to add "Window list" panel to task bar. I also suggest to add "Workspace switcher".

This thing fooled me as well once. I was adding an applet to task bar & moving it. After this whenever I opened an application there was no Icon on task bar. I thought this must be some bug, though as mentioned alt-tab would bring back the window. later I realized while moving the applet, I had shrunk the "Window List" bar and it was not visible. When I resized it, the windows started appearing again. The resizing thing is bit tricky with mint's default theme as its hard to identify the point where its located (lightning theme is better for this). It would be better to add an external "window list" applet like that in ubuntu (though this depends on personal preference).

?how do I launch the task bar preference to add window list to it?
i clicked on Panel in the menu, and got the spinning thingy for about 30 seconds then it went away.
I then right clicked on panel and clicked Launch, and nothing happened.

1. right click on a blank space on task bar
2. add to panel
3. find "Window list", and click add. then you may move it to you preferred location.
