Problem burning GNOME iso image

Postby MJOlsen on Mon Sep 01, 2008 11:33 am

Hi,

Having tried Ubuntu and Kubuntu, I'd like to now try Mint, but I'm having a couple of problems.

The only version I'm able to boot from after burning KDE, XFCE, and presumably GNOME to DVD is the KDE version. For whatever reason the GNOME burns won't boot and I've tried burning them twice. I don't really want the KDE version, as the GNOME desktop appearance is what appeals to me.

I'm using a Windows XP machine to burn the image, using Nero Essentials. Is there maybe something I'm doing wrong?

Also, am I the only one who's confused by the download page on Linuxmint.com? I'm not even sure that what I'm downloading is the latest version (5), nor am I certain I'm downloading the GNOME edition.

Thanks.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

The download page clearly states the version under "Desktop"
You would want the Main version. Click download, the select a Mirror.
Go under the /5 directory
it should look something like this: LinuxMint-5-r1.iso
also get the md5 sum in that directory, to make sure you have the entire file. there are a few windows based sum checkers out there.

it sounds like you put the xfce and gnome versions on a DVD, these are CD versions and that may be your problem

I use md5summer on windows to check the md5sum.
I also use DVD-RW and DVD+RW to burn the cd images.
Nero is a little slow for burning a quick image, so I use image burn.
I also have verify checked in image burn.
