LinuxMint won't install TeamViewer 7?

Post by eiger3970 »

Hi, I have TeamViewer 9 on Linux Mint 16, but I need TeamViewer 7.
I download the Linux Debian 64-bit version and Install Package via GUI.

I then receive the error:
gdebi-gtk (as superuser)
Failed to completely install all dependencies.
To fix this run 'sudo apt-get install -f' in a terminal window.

I run the Terminal command 'sudo apt-get install -f' and it says Removing teamviewer 7 ...

The Package Installer - teamviewer7 (as superuser) then says:
Package: teamviewer7.
Status: Error: Failed to statisy all dependencies (broken cache).

Any suggestions please?

Run Update Manager first. Or from terminal:

Code: Select all

apt update

FWIW-I'm a Mint newbie myself, so this is just a SWAG, but I am also a Teamviwer user (v8).

I use Mint13 64 bit, and for the LIFE of me could not get the 64bit version of Teamviewer to work. I tried the 32bit version, and it worked fine.

I doubt this helps, but I hope it does. See here for more info (scroll down to "Notes to Multiarch)":

Teamviewer 64 for LMDE would not install for me either. The 32-bit version worked fine. I sent them an email, sort of opened a bug with them on it a couple months back. Then I abandoned it and found NoMachine. It's very easy and runs pretty fast across Linux and Windows machines np. If you try it just remember to open port 4000 TCP/UDP on your firewall.

Thanks, I tried apt update and same error.
I tried TeamViewer 7 32-bit and same error.
Notes to Multiarch gave errors:

dpkg: error: unable to create new file '/var/lib/dpkg/arch-new': Permission denied
$ sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

Teamviewer 32-bit is built specifically for 32-bit operating systems I am pretty sure. It installs and runs just fine on LMDE 32-bit for example.

But if, for instance you have LMDE 64 bit installed, Teamviewer 32-bit won't work. The problem with Teamviewer 64-bit is that it's BROKEN. They pretty much know about it, I emailed them back in early March, they replied "looking into it" but I had moved on already. NoMachine works great.

Sorry I haven't got back sooner.

Dont you just love when they leave out the details:

Before you do the "apt-get update" you have to be root. The "notes to multiarch" I guess assume we should know that. Looks like you did "sudo" before the dpkg command...don't know why you didn't do the same with apt-get...

gtsfer-nomachine *may* be an option of the OP (I don't know), but if he is in the same boat I am, the company I work for uses TV, so I pretty much have to go with it. I am just thankful the version we purchased (v8) works for me.

Again though I am using the 32bit version on 64bit Mint 13. Could never get the 64bit TV to work, but the 32bit hasn't given me any problems at all.
