Hey all, just tried to plug my trusty Sandisk Sansa Clip+ MP3 player in to my newly-formatted Mint 17 MATE netbook to add some music to it for the first time since the format and all I get is this error message:
Unable to mount Sandisk Sansa Clip+
Unable to open MTP device '[usb:001,011]'
Any ideas what is going on or how to fix this? It is charging from the USB port, I just can't access it in Mint? It used to work fine on my Mint 14 XFCE install?

Just at a guess, you might try installing mtp-tools. Search for it in Synaptic Package Manager. The description in PM looks correct, maybe it was included by default in LM 14 XFCE.

If you can't change Mint, you might change the Sansa to Mass Storage Class. Unprotected data will transfer just like a disk drive.

Go to your Sansa device settings and change USB Mode to MSC.

That's what I had to do, works fine now. Thanks.

I'm trying to get the same thing to work in LM17 (xfce) but it doesn't even recognize my MP3-later, so it's impossible to mount. Any suggestions? It's set to MSC mode.

Hmmmm, not sure, mine still works great on Mint 17 MATE now that it is in MSC mode....have you tried resetting the player to factory defaults and putting it in MSC mode? Does it work in MSC mode on other computers?

Hah! and it still works (setting to MSC) in 2020 on Linux Mint 20.1 !! This forum is still awesome!!
