Help me get wifi working on my laptop

Postby risoknop on Sat Sep 27, 2008 4:16 pm

Hi,

I have just installed linux Mint (Fluxbox version) on my laptop - Toshiba Satellite L35.

I had little problems with sound and internet connection via flarion data card but I have managed to google solutions and now everything works alright. Except wifi.

My laptop has this wifi chip: Atheros® Wireless LAN (802.11b/g)

How can I get it work? I got the driver enabled (Mint automatically enabled it after installation) so it should work but it cannot find any network :(

It's not that big problem because I can connect to the internet via the data card but I would like to have functional wifi, too, because we have free wifi internet at my college for example ;)

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

We need to know exactly which chip you have
Run lspci or lsusb in a terminal and examine the output to find details
When you find it copy that line and post here

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

00:12.0 IDE interface: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 Serial ATA Controller (rev 80)
00:13.0 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB Host Controller (rev 80)
00:13.1 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB Host Controller (rev 80)
00:13.2 USB Controller: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 USB2 Host Controller (rev 80)

00:14.2 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB4x0 High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01)
00:14.3 ISA bridge: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 PCI-ISA Bridge (rev 80)
00:14.4 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc IXP SB400 PCI-PCI Bridge (rev 80)

09:04.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01)

This should be the wifi:

Should work with the built in drivers
You could try ndiswrapper and Windows drivers if you have some
There is a Windows Atheros driver in mintwifi (/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintwifi)
ndiswrapper is the Windows Wireless Drivers applet in Control Center
