cinnaman to mate?
Is it possible to change from cinnaman to mate on a laptop without a total reinstall? If so, how or where do I look for instructions?

You can install Mate to go along with your Cinnamon.
You switch to Mate or Cinnamon by logging out. On the login screen, click on the little gear icon to switch.
