thanks for the advice, I do have a solution that worked for me though. I figured I would post it.
1st Uninstall the Current Version of VLC(0.8.9I) by searching for it in Synaptic and selecting it to "mark as removal" also select the Mozilla plugin for VLC as well.
2nd Add the Following to your software Repositories:
This can be done through Synaptic, or your can edit your /etc/apt/sources.list file
This is currently hosting VLC 0.9.3 which is considered to be the best version according to the Ubuntu forums.
I guess there is problems with 0.94 and 0.9.5 on some systems
once you ad that to your sources list/repositories then just do a "reload" by clicking the reload button in synaptic this will get your the 0.9.3 version
As i said I am perfectly content on waiting until the mint team decides to put up the other versions...I would rather it be tested to be sure it works correctly and such.
