sound problems, still, and other issues

Post by georgegerm »

i am using elysaa 84 on an older pc
i sometimes have sound sometimes not for call of duty 2
the game installed well with wine
my old pc is an
amd 2400, 1024 ram main board ?? cannot remmeber now, and old soundblaster card whis is reqocnized, disk is 60gb
all works fine, there are so many options i dont know what to use sometimes all on autodetect and soundblaster 5.1 works fine.
sometimes i turn the pc on and it goes to alsa mixer on its own
pulse is installed and works fine
whats the differnce between pulse and alsa??
no matter what i may or may not get system sounds but i can always play mp3s on audacy and or amorak (?), no problem
i do not care to much about system sounds but music is important and i have that.
the mplayer sometimes also gives me no sound yet vlc player does but this is rare
a funny thing besides sound is i have the task bar on top. after i play the game without sound or with (rare and not fun), i am left with a half taskbar visual apperance to the left of the real one (maybe because the game resolution is different to my samsung tft 22 monitor on agp??
and last but not least it bots up good but to turn it off shutdown is slooowww
thanks
and sorry for my english do not use it that often
i am sorry for my not so great knowledge and the lack of info i am giving here.

You give a lot of information but this is so unstructured that I don't really understand what the problem is
Could you tell us what does and what does not work in just a few words
I think you have sound only sometimes, but even that is unclear
When something only works sometimes it indicates hardware error

I think his sound sometimes is related to wine. If that is true, its probally wine.

Codega has a better directx solution.

it is not a hardwaree problem the sound comes and goes as it wishes,
i put this old card into an oldie (as mine) xp and worked fine
the issue is not only on games but also for example loggin sound etc.
if i get a mint log in sound the game will have sound

How strange.
I have problems that the sound defaults to digital instead of analogue. But I can't see how this applies to your situation
