stopping X

Postby kenny5445 on Wed Nov 12, 2008 4:11 pm

Hi, I've got a Nvidia 9000 series card and have downloaded the drivers.

On any other linux system I've used dropping the run level to 3 usually stops X but not on mint.

Can anyone please advise.

Thanks

Kenny

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

With root privileges, try
Code: Select all
/etc/init.d/gdm stop
in terminal. Type startx to get back

Using the program Envy, which comes with Mint, is much easier to install graphic drivers with.

Cheers

Hi, I did try that but the driver didnt work (x wouldnt start). I'm not sure but i think there was an issue with 9000 series and linux drivers.

The one on the nvidia site is newer....

Thanks
