Mint Felicia...Some questions

Postby Infrasound on Fri Nov 14, 2008 11:40 pm

Just some questions on the upcoming release....which is uh RC2.

I've heard that there would be an automated upgrader so users can easily upgrade from older versions.

First question:
Just to make it clear. To upgrade using the upcoming cd...do you just pop the cd in and wait for it to configure automatically?
Do you:
- pop the cd in after elyssa is booted up?
or
- Boot the cd up?

Next question:
Will RC2 be a stable, mature release, unlike RC1?

Looking forward and....CAN'T WAIT!

All the best,

We don't know if there will be a RC2 or a final version next
Clem has to evaluate the feed back first
The upgrade tool will not use the CD (I think - even if that may be better to conserve bandwidth) but rather be an app you install in the version to be upgraded which then will work on it.
Mind you - it does not even exist yet :) it's to be written over the next weeks or so

Hmm, that's a bit harsh. I think RC1 was a pretty nice effort. I've had no stability problems and apart from bug fixes and some artwork, things aren't going to change much more.

I've found no actual bugs! I do however wonder why 6-? updates are held back?

I especially always wonder when they're kernel related updates?

I can only say, as an end user, that this seems very solid!

IMHO RC1 could pass as a Final Release!

Does anyone have insight on how large the update files will be? I'm on a limited internet connection and would like to know if I'm better off with the update route vice waiting for an install CD. Thanks.

This is a very good point. Remember that the Mint ISO of about 700 MB is about 2.5 GB uncompressed data
