VirtualBox, Nvidia, enlarge resolution

Postby daiver on Sun Nov 16, 2008 2:17 pm

Hi guys. First of all, congratulations on the distro. I've always thought that the Linux community was great when it came to kernels, programming, and coding, yet lacked A LOT in the design department. This is the first one that looks beautiful.

Anyway, I installed the distro to play with it and I can't get off the vesa driver. I'm not looking for 3D accel, I just want to be able to run it full screen.

I'm using:

E6600
4 GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GeFore 8800 GTS
VirtualBox
Windows Vista Ultimate

How can I expand my display to 1440x900? Right now I'm stuck at 800x600 and it is frustrating.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I believe you need to install the Guest Additions.

When you're running Mint in Virtualbox click on Devices on the top menu, and click on Install Guest Additions.

This will mount the required videodriver install data.

Open up a terminal, su for root privileges.
Code: Select all
sh /media/cdrom0/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run

I've got to hand it to you. Linux Mint seems to be the best out-of-the-box distro I've tried.

I'm still running it on VirtualBox and I have no problems at all with it. I'd love to see it with 3D accel, but I think VirtualBox doesn't support it.

The look and feel of the desktop is amazing. It seems pretty solid too.

Thanks for the efforts!
