Mint 6 Felicia Main - Black Screen solved

Postby twistedlink on Fri Dec 19, 2008 12:58 pm

Ok so this week i decided to put linux mint on my laptop. Ive heard good things of linux and this one looked very appealing. So i tried to start it regularly and it does nothing but load for hours on end and gets stuck on the little loading circle and changes screens from black then to white. so then i try to start it in compatibility mode where it takes me all the way to i think the end of the boot. the screen has some weird like glitchy stuff then turns black. then at one point i hear *what i think is* the theme music. I have also tried ubuntu and that ones screwed up to. I have a dell 6000 inspiron laptop 1.3 ghz i think 400 and something of ram ( lol) and a 40 gig harddrive....... im some what computer literate i know some things.... please help lol.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I looked around a bit but did not really find anything useful except for one thing which I don't put much hope to but what the heck :)
You have found how to start compatibility (damn - that's hard to spell)
Press tab so you can edit the boot options (the line at the bottom ending in splash quiet)
Remove the splash quiet bit and add
vga=771
(this sets the resolution in command line mode)
Now boot in compatibility mode
And we have a troubleshooter
http://www.linuxmint.com/wiki/index.php ... ur_Live_CD
Sorry for this but occasionally it gets hard

Yes do tell!!! I am still on LM5 for the reason that Ubuntu 8.10 doesnt work with my Intel 845G
It all started with SuSE then it went to OpenSuSE, then a short time with Ubuntu..now it is all Mint
