Cannot mount volume from hard drive.

Postby cribology on Thu Jan 01, 2009 9:22 pm

I can no longer access files in any of the three partitions on my laptop hard drive. I am running linux Mint on a USB stick. If I use the live CD version of Mint, I can access these drives, but when I use the USB installation of Mint I firstly get the following message:

Cannot mount volume.

Unable to mount the volume '114gb'

Details

mount: according to mtab, /dev/sda3 is already mounted on /media/New Volume.

After a further 30 seconds a second message pops up saying.

Unable to mount 114gb
DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

Can anyone help as I dont want to have re install Mint on the USB drive.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think this is it - seems there is a label on the disk - New Volume
You can't have spaces in labels....
Set a new label unless you depend on that label in Windows
See " man e2label " for how to do it
Would be
Code: Select all
e2label /dev/sda3 New_volume

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
