Broken X autostart

Postby cmbcne on Fri Jan 02, 2009 4:48 pm

I had a sound card problem. That's solved, but in the process, I created another problem.

To try to solve the sound issue, I booted into recovery mode (or whatever it's called). In there I realized I didn't know what to do, so I told it continue with regular boot, but it didn't. I got a command line login prompt (which I did). I then typed "startx" and the gui loaded. Sound is now working, but some apps I installed don't (i.e. Azureus, Picasa, Google Earth, etc.). Also the Quit menu item only allows me to Log Out, Lock Screen, Switch User, Suspend, and Hibernate. The options to shut down and restart are missing.

I'm assuming this is because I started X manually.

How do I get it back to starting the gui by itself?

I think you are root in X if you do as you say
Reboot immediately (Normal boot)

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
