Trying to get a USB 2.0 wireless dongle to work

Postby jacatone on Sat Jan 03, 2009 4:47 pm

I recently installed LM 5 and bought a USB 2.0 wireless dongle (Realtek) that says right on the box that it's compatible with Linux. How do I get LM to use this thing to connect to my wireless router? Thanks.

Not enough facts - we need to know which dongle..
With it connected run [lspci] edit by Husse  lsusb and post here (right click to copy)
You can make a search for the id you find out from this - very often you find the solution immediately
 How embarrassing....

Its a usb dongle, so I'm just guessing that lsusb will be more revelatory than lspci. I'm also guessing that it is 8187-based. But we'll find out when the user posts the result of his/her hardware probes.
