1. Is it possible to make the fusion icon come up at boot?

2. Is the way that you turn off Compiz by right clicking on the fusion icon, choosing windows manager to Metacity and then the opposite back to Compiz when you want to turn desktop effects back on?

It seems that I need to turn Desktop effects off when I want to watch a DVD. Otherwise it flickers.

1. Yes,
MintMenu->Preferences->Sessions. Add, with whatever you want for name, and
Code: Select all
fusion-icon
as the command. Put nothing or whatever you want under comment.

2. Yes, it is one way, and probably the fastest, to switch compiz-fusion on/off.
