Mint boots to main screen but no icons or taskbar

Postby rhymenoceros on Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:45 pm

I installed Mint 6 on a bootable flash drive following this tutorial.

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/linux-mint-6-flash-drive-install-via-cd/

When I boot from the flash drive and select Mint in persistence mode it goes through the loading screen and boots to a blank desktop. There are no icons or taskbar. Just the Linux Mint logo. Compatibility mode works fine but I can't save any changes or keep the updates I install.

Anyone know of any way to fix this?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

I think it may have something to do with the Nvidia driver. Is there a way to go into compatibility mode, download updates and drivers and save them?
