Creative Wireless Sound Issue solved

Postby koggelmander on Wed Feb 18, 2009 5:09 pm

When I install Mint having my Creative Xmod Wireless USB plugged in the device picks up perfectly. The problem is that when I pull it out of the laptop the laptop diverts back to the built in speakers. After reading many forums I cannot find the solution of how to make the laptop play the sound through the USB device as default rather than the laptop speakers. I don't think the answer is in the 'Sound' menu under Hardware in the Control Panel. I tried various options there with no results. If anyone has this answer for me will be great. I don't want to reinstall Mint again.

Do you get sound from the USB speakers when/if you reconnect?
If so I think you can just mute the built in speakers as the USB speakers certainly have a volume control of their own

There is power to the device but the sound is dead. It only works when I reinstall Linux from scratch again. It stops working when I pull it out the USB socket. The laptop picks up the built-in speakers when I do this. It then keeps this setting. The laptop fails to pick up the USB device when I put it back in.

I have to think about this - it's somewhat similar to the problem I have with a USB headset

I now have managed to get Totem Player to use the wireless sound by setting the sound preferences to the device. VLC Player and Flash Player still uses the local laptop speakers. Any idea why?

For flash i actually don't know but VLC should have an option to choose sound device in preferences
I may be wrong as I don't have VLC installed in this version of Mint (I have varying between 3 and 10 installed :))

I am still puzzled. I have it all working now but only after a fresh re-installation of mint. Will try not to plug out the usb device while the lappie is on. Thanks for the responses.
