Hi all, does anyone know of a good video format converter to convert between formats such as, AVI, DIVX, XVID, MPEG, FLV and
others out there. Have found quite a few for Window$, but having trouble finding one for Linux. Any help gratefully accepted.
Thanks everyone.

Re: video format converter
This site is another option to consider:
http://www.media-convert.com/
It will also convert to the free Ogg codecs, Ogg Vorbis and Ogg Theora (listed on the site as Ogg audio and Ogg video) These codecs are free (no license, absolutely legal to use) and are very high quality. Ogg Vorbis gives a much clearer sound than MP3, for the same compression ratio (MP3 loses more than 30% of the original audio and WMA loses even more than that) Nearly all media player software (including WMP and iTunes) will play the Ogg formats and so do many media hardware (many CD players and MP3 players)

Install the package WinFF from the repo's. It is a nice GUI for ffmpeg.
