Printer advice please

I am new to Linux having been using Win2000 and so far its been plain sailing except for getting my printer to work. Its a Lexmark X2350 printer/scanner/copier and I've gone through the forums and Googled for ages and come to the following conclusions.
1. Lexmark don't support Linux and its never going to work
2. I'm going to have to buy another printer

Am I right in thinking this and does anyone have any suggestions for a combined printer/scanner that
will work "out of the box"?
I can cope with a bit of tinkering but the last time I did any programming was using BASIC on a RML 380Z (How old!)

Any comments appreciated
Matt

Anything from HP. Most (if not all) of their printers will work out of the box and if you need newer software/drivers it's a simple download from http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/index.html.

I just converted my brother to Linux Mint a while back. He had a basic Lexmark which I could not get to work. I suggested he get a new HP all-in-one (can't remember the model). Worked great out of the box. In fact, this was more Plug-N-Play than Windows ever was. No need to install any software or drivers.

Not entirely true as I'm using an E322 laser and I've managed to get it working with every flavor of Ubuntu since 5.x and recent editions of Mint.

Thanks for your help guys that saves a lot of messing around. Just checked the HP website, very helpful indeed, a full list of compatible printers and which distros are supported for various scan and fax functions
