This is slightly older hardware than I have a solution in stock for
For the sound - try every setting possible
Double click on the volume applet next to the clock
There are options in "Preferences" and the scroll down menu that you can try
60 Hz is the default for most LCD monitors (sometimes 75 Hz)
Have you installed the ATI proprietary video drivers?
If not - got to Hardware Drivers and enable the driver - it will then be downloaded and installed
I think your Radeon is not too old for this
