Problem to play mp3 with VLC

sound problem, here is the problem my MP3's skip, all of them. I have an Asus M3A78-EM mobo w AMD 780G chipset. what should i do, i know its not the files because they play fine on my cell phone when i transfer them there and they also run fine under windows(using VLC the same player they skip under linux with), i have tried using VLC and the default player that comes with mint. any help would be great thanks alot!

I hope you don't have the "Universal Edition"
Seems to me like a missing codec
You could try to install ffmpeg
