What program are you using to burn your ISO? Also, the Universal version is only 1.2 GB, so I am not sure where the 2.4 GB is coming from. Doubled somehow? Something does sound unusual with your situation. I have never used the Universal version, but I know the Main GNOME versions work on my end. What else can you share about hardware and software on your end?

If you only downloaded the Universal edition for the live part I suggest you download main instead. All the editions are live cds/dvds as far as I know.
