Recommend network card

Postby kuzushi on Tue Mar 31, 2009 12:06 am

I need a recommendation for a network card on Mint.
The one I have is generic and the chip is not what's advertised.
Response's have been to buy a real card.

I would prefer something that is going to be straightforward.
The brand doesn't matter so much as long as it works.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

That's strange... I have never had a wired ethernet card not work out of the box in Linux. You can check the Ubuntu hardware compatibility list for some good info.

I have the Realtek RTL8139. That's the one that I cannot get to work under Linux.
Even though it does have Linux drivers, it's a no go.

I bought the Intel PWLA8391GT PCI PRO/1000 GT - OEM from the Egg.
Sounds like Intel hardware works well under Linux.

I'm posting this from the live cd. The card is automatically detected and the connection was there without my help.
Very impressed with Mint and the Intel NIC Card. Well done.

I'm shook.

Seems like the Realtek should work out of the box... http://www.ubuntuhcl.org/browse/product ... 9c?id=6553

Are you sure the card has no problems?
