LinuxMint Windows installer...

Postby LinuxNick on Fri Apr 03, 2009 10:07 am

Why does it have to download files? I was thinking everything was on the CD. If I can help in any way I'd like to. I can be used as a mirror if possible. I have really fast internet at work and my boss doesn't mind. He's a Mac guy and I'm a Windows guy. Getting him into Linux. :-)

The mint4win installer is based off ubuntu's wubi. From the http://wubi-installer.org FAQ:

Can I use an existing ISO/CD instead of letting Wubi download a new one?

Yes, physical CDs will be detected automatically, pre-downloaded ISOs should be placed in the same folder as Wubi.exe. Please note tha Wubi 8.10 requires the Desktop 8.10 CD/ISO. The DVD and Altrenate CD/ISO will not work. You can find the 8.10 ISO here. If Wubi does not find an appropriate ISO/CD and/or if the ISO/CD is corrupted, it will automatically download a new ISO. It is recommended to let Wubi download the ISO for you.

Well I have the ISO mounted and I've downloaded it and installed it on several computers. I doubt all ISO's are bad. That's why I was wondering why it has to go through this LONG process. (right now downloading at 92kb)

Thanks for the reply emorrp1.

in that case, I'd suggest you unmounted the iso and move the installer to the same directory, as in the FAQ, then try again, and see if it autodetects now.
