Don't try to drag all your Windows crutches over into Linux.
You'll just repeat all the time-wasting, space-wasting and resource-wasting procedures
you practiced in Windows.
Which Anti-Virus program is better for Linuxmint?

Re: Which Anti-Virus program is better for Linuxmint?
The only real reason for an anti-virus program in Linux is to protect any Windows users you may be sharing files with. You can download ClamAV from the repos and use it to scan all files received from or sent to Windows users on your network so their computers won't be infected with malware transfered through your system.
Other than that there is no current need for malware protection in Linux. Windows malware usually won't run in Linux and if it could, the built in compartmentalization of Linux prevents excessive damage. It's probable that, as Linux increases in popularity, it will become a target for malware attacks, but the attack programs will have to be much more sophisticated than the ones used against Windows due to Linux' inherently higher security.

I think most Distro's come with ClamAV. But as said before Linux is mostly safe, and you shouldn't need any. Who knows what the future holds though.
Re: Which Anti-Virus program is better for Linuxmint?
I would like a virus scanner that integrates with Thunderbird just to make sure I don't inadvertently forward an infected e-mail to a Windows user. Does such a thing exist for Linux?
Thanks.
