[Solved] Need help installing usb_modeswitch

Postby Salamancero on Sun Apr 19, 2009 9:23 am

Still finding my bearings with Linux after a good seventeen years on Microsoft offerings. Kinda at a loss on how to install usb_modeswitch so if there are any generous souls out there, could use some help.

Btw, how do you install programs in general using Linux? The package manager is very convenient but for programs that aren't available in the package manager, how do you go about installing them?

Thanks :D

The usb_modeswitch is found in our repositories
You may have to enable the community repositories either from synaptics or by editing directly
In Synaptic > Settings > Repositories > Enable the community one

Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it

Thanks! Will try this out later. Currently downloading Wine. Probably won't need it once I overcome my fear of Docx compatibility but might as well experiment with it. :D

Btw, how do you update open office? I have 2.4 but I want to update to 3.0.

Don't try and install it manually - you will almost certainly fail. If it isn't in your repositories then you haven't carried out Husse's instructions properly, have another go! Alternatively go here:

And look under Community.
