Boot my Asus AspireOne Netbook off a USB??

Postby ScooterNoob on Sun May 03, 2009 6:59 pm

So here's what I would LOVE to do. Can anyone help?
I have a new Asus AspireOne netbook that I love. I run XP on it.

Occasionally, I would like to be able to stick a special USB drive in the netbook, which would do this:
When I turn it on, the machine shows a splash screen that I provide. In the background, the machine boots directly into a very barebones Linux, and also directly into the Firefox browser, and opens to a given URL (like www.somepage.com) in fullscreen, "kiosk" mode.

The URL I am booting to is a slideshow, so I am essentially turning the netbook into one of those little digital picture frames (only the images are coming from a website)

Any ideas? I could scratch up money if I needed to!

thx

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

This looks like a job for a custom DSL or Puppy Linux.
