Wondering if anyone has had any luck getting a MS Lifecam vx-3000 to work with Skype. Currently I cannot find the device, but that may stem from the fact that I'm not sure how to find it to configure it.

Extreme Newbie here,... so so far,.. I've plugged in the webcam,... and the little green light came on,.... Video settings in Skype doesn't show any video devices.

(let me guess, this is a microsoft problem that's going to haunt me all the way back to the store to buy a different cam.)

ANY ASSISTANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED WHILE I SEARCH THE FORUMS FOR MORE INFO...

Thanks,
Paul

To help you with this we must know the ID of the chip
With the cam connected run lsusb (note l is a lower case L) in a terminal and post here (right click to copy)
What we must do is search for the chip ID and linux

It seems that it is supported by gspca_sonixj
http://tomoyo.sourceforge.jp/cgi-bin/lx ... ;diffvar=a
This might work

It is for the VX1000 but these two use the same module
Have not investigated this but it looks as you need some skills here

I'll post any other issues I run into.
