no boot progress bar

Postby hansie on Sat May 19, 2007 7:22 am

Hi:

I hope someone can help me out??

There is a difference between 2 computers, which I'll call "Celeron" and "Pentium":

The Celeron will give a boot progress bar, from boot selection to user log-in; the Pentium does not. The Pentium only shows a flickering monitor -

1. I have downloaded the OS both from the torrent, as well as direct download. Both versions manifest the same phenomenon

2. I have installed both versions on the Pentium, to check. The results are the same: No progress bar during initial boot; No Linux Mint boot logo

I really love Linux Mint Bianca. However I would like to make sure the OS is booting, because right now I only do have a flickering monitor -, besides the flickering computer LED

Thanks!!

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

no boot progress bar

Hi:

Linux Mint-2.2. iso "live cd", as well as the "installed version", behave differently on the "Celeron", when compared to the "Pentium".

"Celeron":

1. HP/Asus mobo, no graphics card, shared memory
2. 1.0 Ghz Celeron
3. 512 Mb installed memory
4. HP "Mx50" monitor

"Pentium":

1. About 4-year old "Fully Integrated Intel" mobo, no graphics card, shared memory
2. 1.8 Ghz Pentium 4
3. 512 Mb installed memory
4. HP "Mx50" monitor

Both the "boot processes", as well as the "shutdown processes", are different for each species. The "Celeron" will show logo and progress bar; the "Pentium" will not. This applies to "live cd", as well as "installed version". All of them will ultimately boot.

N.B.: Neither one can handle "Cassandra", BETA, or Ubuntu 7.04 for that matter. Cassandra "live cd", (or Ubuntu 7.04 "live cd" for that matter), just won't boot, under any circumstances, as per widely reported "bug reports"..... Ubuntu 6.06, as well as 6.10 have no problems whatsoever!!
