(solved) wine doesn't work

Postby rdh61 on Wed Jun 10, 2009 5:42 am

Hi, I have installed wine. Yet when I double click on .exe files the archive manager attempts to open them, then tells me:

"[/media/cdrom0/SETUP.EXE]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
note: /media/cdrom0/SETUP.EXE may be a plain executable, not an archive
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /media/cdrom0/SETUP.EXE or
/media/cdrom0/SETUP.EXE.zip, and cannot find /media/cdrom0/SETUP.EXE.ZIP, period."

Wine "help" does not respond.

Help!

Instead of double clicking them and letting the archive manager attempt to handle the file, right click on the file and you should see a choice worded something like "Run with Wine Windows Program Loader." Select that and Wine should attempt to run the program.

Notice I said ATTEMPT to run the program. Wine is great and can run a lot of stuff, but sometimes it chokes....

you can also run
wine /media/cdrom0/SETUP.EXE
in a terminal window. This will give you some output to work with if things don't work.
