Problem with swap space allocation - new installation

Postby ram_bala on Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:26 am

Dear Friends,
I'm new to LinuxMint and Linux itself!. I've a PC with 160GB hard disc with Windows XP installed.
I was having a partition F: (14.2 GB) in windows, I've deleted that partition using control panel of windows to create a free space of 14.2 GB.
While installing LinuxMint7, I've chosen the option "use the largest continuous free space". So, LinuxMint got installed in that space. But it had taken more than 13 GB of space for filesystem and allowed only 613 MB for swap space.
My PC has a RAM of 1GB, so I want to have atleast 2GB of swap space. How to change the swap space now?
If need to reinstall LinuxMint7, how to choose this option for swap space?
Please help me.

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

Is the SWAP partition located before of after your Linux MInt partition?
If it was after, you could simply load the LiveCD, resize the LinuxMint partition by roughly 1.5GB smaller, delete the old SWAP and create a new SWAP in the newly created space.

The swap is after the Linux partition. So, as per your advice, I'll try to resize the partition using Live CD.
Thanks for the guidance.
