Determine which Mint release is installed

Postby serethos on Tue Jul 14, 2009 4:26 am

As a Germans user my first hit for fetching a mint installation iso was from this site: (btw: is that
an official site for mint?). What I did not regognize was, the site only offers Mint6 and not the newest release Mint7 as the official
site does.
After the installation was done I updated the system using the mintUpdater. But one thing is not clear to me. Do I have now an up-to-date Version6 or did the update process migrate my Mint to version 7? How can I check which version I have?

Linux Mint is funded by ads and donations.

In terminal,
Code: Select all
cat /etc/issue
should tell you.

Postby Husse on Tue Jul 14, 2009 6:05 am is an official Mint site, but honestly I thought we had closed it :)
It was used when we experimented with podcasts and other things
mintUpdate does not upgrade your system, it updates it
We will soon have an automatic upgrade built into mintUpdate
