If your system is running well with Mint 6 XFCE, you should have few or no problems with Mint 7 XFCE.

Of course anything may happen - that's why we have this forum.

Your Dell probably has an Intel chipset onboard. And of course you already know of the well documented ATI/Intel bugs that are in the kernel of Jaunty,Gloria, and all other distros that use this kernel.

This may NOT be your case, but if so, there ARE simple fixes available. ( http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582 )

I would suggest downloading the iso, check the md5sum, burn as slow as possible, and try the Live CD ! Then you can make a more informed choice!

regards, Richard

ps: I have the Live Xfce CD, and it's awesome! Image

Nope, just different desktop managers. (Gnome vs Xfce) Give it a try.

It's more to do with video.
The audio problem is reported as easily fixable:
try playing a music CD or mp3 file, opening alsamixer in a terminal and playing with mute/umute buttons (use the "m" key) and raising volume sliders until you get sound?
I would still suggest downloading the iso, check the md5sum, burn as slow as possible, and try the Live CD ! Then you can make a more informed choice!
