More context needed : desktop setup, video card being used

A short listing of your hardware data could help
In a terminal, check
  • inxi -F
    --all hardware, short list
    inxi -G
    --video card
    inxi -H
--gives you the command options help
A listing of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file contents
  • gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
mint menu>Applications>Text Editor

I am not sure; I don't really see much amiss there..
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/363375
--it was a bug, but it should have been OK with Twinview (instead of Xinerama)

The settings to identify and use both screens look OK to me, they are both separate screens at that point
http://www.oreillynet.com/linux/blog/20 ... gconf.html
--that might help with the contents of the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file might be for both monitors, it should be very similar to your current settings..
  • the only thing I can think of changing is to set the resolution of the laptop screen (I assume dpf 0, in your file) instead of using auto /list]
--since I can't experiment with twinview..

    ----------------------------------------------------------

I am not sure where it will be as I don't use twinview to setup multiple monitors, but it sounds like your mouse is set to not wrap around screen edges..
--you might be able to do that via nvidia-settings and setting a virtual screen size to include both screens so 17" + 19" = ~37" of screen real estate as the virtual size of both screens; it mighty be that the max resolution detected is only to the size of the 24" screen (which might be enough to contain the laptop 17" screen; allowing the mouse to fall over)

I have a feeling that this is the normal operation for twinview with separate displays, separate windows managers running each display
