Audio-Video chat doesn't work in Pidgin 2.6.1

Postby mikesol on Thu Aug 20, 2009 10:39 pm

Hello guys

I installed Pidgin 2.6.1 from getdeb yesterday only for the video-audio chat feature. But I haven't realized how to use this functionality because doesn't appears in the context menu. Here some screenshoots.

Anyone knows how to use this??

Thanks

It doesn't exist and the pidgin community doesn't feel it's a necessary addition, so it's not likely that we'll see that feature anytime soon. Try aMSN instead.

not quite true. The situation is that they now have a multimedia framework, with the only current implementation being XMPP (e.g. Google Voice), more will come eventually as and when developers can be bothered.

yes, they announced it for XMPP, so are you sure you're using that protocol? (i.e. not MSN)

The Pidgeon is talking!!

I found this on another Linux Forum ... TuxMachines.org

You need Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04) or Karmic Koala (9.10)

Remove existing Pidgin:

sudo aptitude purge pidgin pidgin-data libpurple0 libpurple-bin

Add the following repositories to Software sources:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/pidgin-developers/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

Change jaunty to karmic if necessary.

Add signing keys:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys A1F196A8

Update and install:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude install pidgin

For audio/video calls:

Double click the birdy and
Click on Conversation/Media in the new window.

If the buddy does not have audio/video facility the options will be greyed out.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Hope this works for you. I installed-upgraded my Pidgin Messenger.
