VLC Window Placement

Post by mooreted »

If I load a playlist into VLC and play it, I get windows everywhere. Video1 opens in the upper left corner. When it's done Video2 opens in the lower left corner. Each video opens on a new spot on the screen, all over the screen. It's really annoying.

If version 1.0 or higher, there is an option in Tools>Preferences, right on the Interface tab for "allow only one instance" and "enqueue files in single instance mode". You should enable both those options.

The VideoLan site has lots of helpful FAQs, articles & how-to's, and even forums.

Thanks. I did check those. I'm not getting multiple instances. I add a bunch of clips to the playlist. The first clip opens on the upper left portion of the screen. When that clip is done playing, the next clip opens; this time in the lower left portion of the screen. When that clip is done playing, the next clip opens on the bottom center of the screen. This continues for each clip. Every clip will open on a different part of the screen. I would perfer that every clip opens in the center of the screen.

Oh, OK, I see what you're getting at.

Compiz's Place Window plugin should give you the control you're after. You can either set a screen location manually on a per-window basis, or just set a default centered placement for all windows of all types.

Thanks. I will mess with that and see what I can do. I don't want to lose smart window placement for every window. It's quite handy for most things.
