Epson D78

My printer is printing very badly with linux mint cassandra . so I went to the Epson site and was advised to download and install the following.

pips-sc79-Redhat9-3.0-CLGE.install

I have been trying for the last 3 hours , without success !!
As my son is waiting to print some course work I am being pushed to reload windows xp and I dont want to do that . Can some one advise ??

This driver from openprinting.org may has instructions for use in Ubuntu on the homepage so it looks promising
I think you won't have problems with it, but it is not a .deb package...
