You can't use that approach if you only have one HDD. Reason for this is because the directory containing the Live CD contents obviously has to be mounted at boot up. Thus, the Installer will see your hard drive as being in use and keep you from manipulating its partitions. You have to set up a Live USB environment so that you can run the installer from a USB stick/flashdrive.
