So are you running Mint -in- Windows or dual booting?
Also did it freeze when you started your laptop -or- while running updates?
Please be a bit more specific.
Also, if it is while running updates only, let us know that.

I've seen some other posts that indicate a similar problem when using Mint4Win due to not enough space being allocated for Mint. See if the space you allocated is full, if so then add more.

mint4win - A Windows installer for Linux Mint
If you run Microsoft Windows, insert the liveCD
and a program called mint4win will launch automatically.
This program is an installer for Linux Mint which runs on Windows.
It installs Linux Mint within a file on one your partitions and
it doesn't touch your existing partitions.
It also sets up a Windows multiboot for you.
Of course the performance won't be as good as if the
system was installed in its own partition but if you
just want to give Linux Mint a try this is a very good option.
You can remove mint4win from the Add/Remove applications tool
within Windows and this will remove Linux Mint and restore
your boot exactly as it was.
Pay particular attention to this line

So as you can see you are running Linux Mint from a file
on Windows 7 and so it's performance is degraded.
The freezing may be a Windows 7 issue, who knows.
On it's own partition, in a conventional install, on the same machine, Mint 7 will
run faster than Windows 7.It's hardware requirements are substantially lower.

If you're not using, or going to use Vista go ahead and delete that partition.
You might as well get some use out of it.
None of those guides describe your exact scenario - Win7 and Mint dual boot.
However the Vista and Ubuntu is probably close.
7GB is not enough for Mint though - no room to grow.
Resize your partitions with the Windows 7 built in tool.
Don't rush and things should be fine.
My route would be to first delete the 7GB partition.
Shrink your main partition by at least 20GB
Leave unpartitioned.
Boot the Mint Cd and select the option to install to the
unpartitioned space.

Start backing up things in your Windows partition. It won't be long until you want to allocate the entire disk to Mint

I'm really glad things worked out for you.
My advice is to take things slowly and enjoy your new system.
Experiment with the CLI.
Install Wine to run Windows apps.
Install Conky to see different information about your machine.
Where ever possible install your new applications with Package
Manager, it makes resolving dependencies so much simpler.
It also makes removing programs easier.
Find the fun things you can only do in Linux and not Windows.
