Menu bar keeps dissappearing

Hi all.

I have my great Linux mint installed on my net book, the problem is with some software my screen is too small to show all the application (mainly in qtoctave). Now my problem is, when I click on things the click causes the top bar (with the menu and application title) to disappear (which is fine, as it increases my work space) and a second click makes it re-appear. This is a big problem when trying to click on something, as when I click the bar disappears and everything moves, so if i click on the edit box it moves, if i click where it moved to it moves back (so I can't highlight it). I can edit the box by clicking where it will move to but it is still frustrating.

Any ideas on the problem?

I'm not sure I quite understand you - do you have autohide enabled?
