I have had that happen before - but never knew how to get it back - I ended up re-doing the system. THere must be a way though.
I also must say that there are a number of icons. wireless with the bars, the 2 computers icon, and another one if i am not mistaken. I had the issues with the wireless bars icon. Never could find out how to get that back.
