Apparently an older release of Linux Mint did recognize that card..
  • Linux mint 6 (Felicia)..

  • Or this, using broadcom drivers with Linux Mint 7..

The unfortunate part is that I lost my windows CD..
Which, of course means missing windows drivers for the computer, so you may have to get them elsewhere, e.g. the Internet

In terminal, check
--I assume that this machine uses a built in wireless and not a usb stick, but doesn't hurt to see more data..
  • inxi -F
    lspci
    dmesg
    --errors for wireless card
    lsusb
Sure, if you want to try ndisqwrapper for that wireless card/chipset, then you could download the windows driver
  • If it is not an *.exe file, it might be able to be expanded (extracted or unzipped ? ) to show the files within. But I would be looking for that windows driver for Compaq v6000 ..
--or research the broadcom options for Linux..

Also battery issues..
